Dr Peter Blattner

 

CIE President

The head of the optics laboratory of Metrology (METAS)

 

Brief biography:

 

Peter Blattner holds a his Ph.D in the field of applied optics from the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He joined the Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) in 2000 where he is currently the head of the optics laboratory. He served as chairman of the Technical Committee of Photometry and Radiometry of the European Association of Metrology Institutes (EURAMET TC-PR ) from 2007 to 2011. Between 2011 and 2019 he was the Director of Division 2 (Measurement of Light and Radiation) at the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). Peter Blattner is active in several standardization committees (ISO TC169, IEC 34, IEC 76, CEN TC 169) and chairs the Swiss Standardization Committee on light and lighting. In 2015 he received the CIE Wyszecki Gold Pin award for outstanding contribution in fundamental research. In October 2017 Peter Blattner was elected CIE President for the period 2019 to 2023.

Brief biography:

 

Dr. Luoxi Hao is a tenured professor in the College of Architecture & Urban Planning at Tongji University. She is vice president of CIE (2019-2023), the vice president of China Illuminating Engineering Society (CIES), the director of Working Committee for International Exchanges of CIES, and the vice president of Shanghai Illuminating Engineering Society and the director of the Academic Working Committee. Prof. Hao is mainly engaged in teaching and research in the field of light, colour, vision, as well as architectural and urban lighting design. She has published over 140 papers on key journals, and published academic books “Light and Health”, “Urban Lighting Design”, “Light + Design: Practice and Discovery of Lighting Education”, “Lighting Master Planning and Design Research of China 2010 Shanghai World Expo Park”, and also a book which truly records the work and life of China 29th Antarctic scientific expedition team – “Antarctic Memory”.

Prof Yandan Lin

Brief biography:

 

Yandan Lin received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in the Department of Light Sources & Illuminating Engineering, Fudan University in 1999 and 2005, respectively. She is now a full professor at the Department of Light Sources & Illuminating Engineering, Fudan University. Her research interests include visual comfort, color vision, and human centric lighting. She has been awarded more than 30 funding projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Special Project for China Commercial Aircraft. She has published more than 100 academic articles. She is the Chair of CIE TC 1-91 (Color Quality of White Light) and is active in the field of color and vision.

Prof Yoko Mizokami

Brief biography:

 

Yoko Mizokami is a Professor in the Department of Imaging Sciences, Graduate School of Engineering, Chiba University, Japan. She received a Ph.D. in Engineering in 2002 from Ritsumeikan University, Japan. From 2002-2006 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Nevada, Reno, Department of Psychology. She moved to Chiba University in 2006.

She is currently an associate director of CIE Division 1and a member of the International Colour Vision Society board of directors. Her research interests lie in color vision, color science, and vision in natural environments.

Brief biography:

 

 

YOUNGSHIN KWAK received B.S. (physics) and M.S. (physics) degrees in 1995 and 1997 from Ewha Women’s University, Seoul, South Korea. After completing her PhD studies at the Colour & Imaging Institute, University of Derby, UK, in July 2003, she worked for Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, South Korea. Since February 2009, she is working as a professor at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), South Korea. Her main research interests include the color appearance modeling, visual appearance, and the quality of 2D/3D images and lighting.

Zhuofei Ren received her Bachelor of Architecture from Harbin Institute of Technology, China in 2011, Master of Architecture from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US in 2013 and Master of Fine Arts-Lighting Design from Parsons the New School for Design in 2015. She served as a lighting designer with Cooley Monato Studio, US and Suoshi Lighting Co., Ltd, China respectively. Currently she is working toward her PhD degree in architectural lighting with School of Architecture, Tianjin University, China. Her area of research focuses on the impact of artificial light on birds’ night-time activities.
